Recycling and reusing are a part of my life, much to my children’s chagrin at times. This book is about a not-so-fancy swing set that continues to make fun memories despite being old. Many would say it could be used for firewood. We, as grandparents, can teach our grandkids that what is old can be new and enjoyable for someone else. Valuing time spent together never gets old.

About the Author

Darlene is a 70-something granny enjoying retirement with her husband of 55 years and their 3-year-old Yorkie, Phoebe. Living in a small town after retiring from the City was a shock, but living on a “gurgling” river filled with wildlife has been restful. They have two adult children, both of them married and willing to share their kids with them, whether it be for only a day or extended stay overs. Since high school, Darlene has been interested in the writing of all kinds, from journaling to writing letters or just decluttering her mind. She enjoys writing about comical situations that she and her husband get pulled into, her husband says, because she is too friendly and smiles at everyone encouraging conversation. This book is my first attempt.

There is nothing better than to build something with your own hands. Whether you’re building a house, a swing set or simply fixing a fence, there’s something special about it. But we are in an age where everything needs to be perfect and in order. There is this pressure that we have to work under and no one even remembers why they are doing it. The Little Wooden Swing Set: Reusing an Old Wooden Swing Set should not only remind you that there are other ways of doing things but also the importance of living life in the present moment.

The Little Wooden Swing Set by Darlene Loven is a Goodreads Best Children’s Book of 2013. It is about two children who were very proud of their new Little Wooden Swing Set. No matter that it was old, the swing set continued to be used as a learning tool and fun time for the kids. Even when they no longer had space for it, it still kept making memories— one of the best being learning to ride a bike on wet grass.

“This is a delightful book about a sweet time and a great memory. My 10 year old grandson has read it several times with great delight. It is so refreshing in this day of electronics that he found one book so much fun to reread. I hope the author writes more”.
